GI Dynamics, Inc., a company focused on the development and commercialization of effective, non-surgical approaches for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity, today announced that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved the EndoBarrierĀ® Gastrointestinal Liner for inclusion on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, prescription drug abuse is more prevalent than abuse of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. In fact, in the past year, prescription drug abuse ranked second only to marijuana use. In the face of this growing problem, Pisgah Labs, Inc. has just filed its eighth patent application on a technology that promises to curb prescription drug abuse.
For the week ending January 8, 2010, Smart for Life(R) Cookie Diet ranked number one in the diet category and number two overall on the Infomercial Monitoring Service Listing, well ahead of Nutrisystem(R), eDiets(R), Jillian Weight Loss and Jenny Craig(R).
New research, conducted by Katherine Chretien., M.D., F.A.C.P., associate professor of Medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, reveals that while social media has the potential to have a positive social impact, there is need for greater accountability and guidelines, as some physicians who are regular users of Twitter are disseminating unethical and unprofessional content.
Cranberries are more than a holiday favorite, given their remarkable nutritional and health benefits. A new research review published in the international journal Advances in Nutrition provides reasons why these tiny berries can be front and center and not just a side dish. The review authors conclude that cranberries provide unique bioactive compounds that may help reduce the incidence of certain infections, improve heart health and temper inflammation.
