Researchers at UCL have developed a new way to make blood stem cells present in the umbilical cord 'more transplantable', a finding in mice which could improve the treatment of a wide range of blood diseases in children and adults.
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) today lauded a recent San Francisco study which documented a significant increase in HIV testing rates among high-risk groups who have not had to undergo written consent for the procedure, a study finding which supports a change in testing protocol that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) first recommended in its revised 2006 guidelines for HIV testing, but a change that has not been widely adopted nationwide.
Aphios Corporation today announced that it was awarded United States Patent No. 7,708,915 B2 for "Polymer Microspheres/Nanospheres and Encapsulating Therapeutic Proteins Therein," granted May 04, 2010. This invention is an improved process to formulate polymeric microspheres and nanospheres, and encapsulate therapeutic proteins or other useful substances, and a polymer microspheres/nanospheres apparatus.
"Chief Information Officers (CIOs) need to perform a gap analysis to identify where Information Technology (IT) needs to be, from a business and not an IT perspective," advises Greg Johnson, Chief Technology Officer at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Healthcare organizations must be able to work smart, which means that virtualization, standardization and simplification of the IT environment are necessary for meeting growing organizational goals.
