Much like electricity traveling down wires, nerve impulses in our brain travel along nerve fibers. Researchers at HSC Fort Worth were awarded a grant expected to total $45 million from the National Institute on Aging, part of the National Institutes of Health, to expand innovative research into Alzheimer's disease and the biological differences that cause the disease to disproportionately afflict Mexican Americans.
Funding for health in developing countries has increased substantially since 1990, with a focus on HIV/AIDS, maternal health, and newborn and child health, and limited funding for noncommunicable diseases, according to a study in the June 16 issue of JAMA.
