The International Sweeteners Association welcomes the publication this month of a new scientific report by Ashwell et al. in Nutrition Research Reviews.
Parkinson's disease affects 6.3 million people worldwide. While the disease is recognized for its profound effects on movement, up to 40 percent of Parkinson's disease patients also develop changes in thought, behavior and judgment.
"Cash-strapped Swaziland's state hospitals have only two months' supplies of AIDS drugs, the country's health minister has told parliament in an assessment that AIDS patients and activists took as a death sentence," the Associated Press/Seattle Times reports. More than 60,000 Swazis receive antiretroviral medicine at no cost from state-run hospitals.
At the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, the companies i2A Canada and Bruker Ltd. announced together that they have met the relevant Health Products and Food Branch of Health Canada regulations for the Bruker IVD MALDI Biotyper, and that this product is now available for sale as a Class 1 Medical Device to all clinical microbiology sites in Canada.
Scientists Stéphanie Lacour and Grégoire Courtine of Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland are paving the way for new, intelligent neuroprosthetics that may one day assist people with neurological dysfunction in everyday tasks.
