Sangamo BioSciences, Inc. announced that data from its programs to develop ZFN-based therapeutic approaches for the treatment of HIV/AIDS were discussed in four oral presentations at the 18th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held in Boston from February 27 to March 2, 2011.
Chart Industries, Inc., a leading independent global manufacturer of highly engineered equipment used in the production, storage and end-use of hydrocarbon and industrial gases, today announced that CAIRE, which operates under Chart's BioMedical segment, plans to close its liquid oxygen therapy manufacturing operations in Plainfield, Indiana and relocate the manufacturing and customer service operations to a facility close to existing operations in Canton, Georgia where it manufactures the same product line.
Despite considerable advances in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS over the past 30 years, HIV infection rates have remained stagnant in the United States for the past decade. A study by researchers at the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute examines links between spending on social services and public health and AIDS deaths in the United States.
For patients with high-risk breast cancer treated with radical mastectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy, the addition of radiation therapy leads to better survival outcomes with few long-term toxic effects, according to a 20-year follow-up of a randomized trial, which appears in the January 19 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Today, the Japanese subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), announced that it would begin a voluntary recall of Poligrip products that contain zinc in that country Friday. The company's decision followed just three reports of adverse health effects in consumers of the product, sold in Japan as Poligrip EX.
