The Medical University of Vienna is coordinating an international research project, which investigates the effectiveness of tried and tested medicines for the treatment of some of the heaviest burdens of our modern society including diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. One molecule that these disorders have in common is a receptor known as the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), which is the molecular starting point of this project.
Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in data management solutions for the exchange of health information, announced today the launch of its Initiate® Provider Management solution, a unique offering that allows healthcare organizations to create a provider registry to ensure that all systems using provider data operate from the same up-to-date information.
Experts who have been investigating the World Health Organization's management of the response to the H1N1 pandemic have announced that they found no evidence that the drug industry influenced the agency's decision making over how to handle the virus. In their draft report that panel of independent experts did acknowledge that the WHO failed to understand and respond to conflicts of interest among experts on its advisory Emergency Committee, which had previously acknowledged their pharmaceutical industry ties.
Complications in the recovery room decreased by 58 percent between 1990 and 2010, according to a study presented at the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2013 annual meeting. In a previous study completed in the late 1980s, recovery room complications occurred in 23.7 percent of the patients.
Rising unemployment and other economic problems have led some consumers to delay filling prescriptions or cut pills in half, according to Walgreen executives, the Wall Street Journal reports.
