A new drug for lung cancer is being tried by researchers at Oxford. The treatment, which halts the growth of cancer cells, is being trialed on those patients who have stopped responding to chemotherapy. The trial is one of the first to go ahead at the Oxford Cancer Research Centre.
MicroMatrices, a service provider specialised in high resolution cell type-specific analysis to characterise toxicological responses in different cell types in tissue, today announced a preferred partnership agreement with Advanced Cell Diagnostics, Inc., a leader in the field of molecular pathology and developer of cell and tissue-based analysis tools.
Recently, scientists have recognized that loss of responsiveness to insulin plays a major role in the loss of physical strength that occurs as people grow older. Now, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston researchers have demonstrated that by increasing insulin levels above the normal range in elderly test subjects, they can restore the impaired muscle-building process responsible for age-related physical weakness.
In a showing of its continued commitment to eradicating today's major complication in the treatment of haemophilia with FVIII concentrates − i.e. anti-FVIII neutralising antibodies − Octapharma AG recently sponsored a symposium, "Inhibitors in Haemophilia A: Prevention, Current Management and Personalised Therapy Perspectives", on July 13, 2010 at the World Federation of Haemophilia's (WFH's) yearly congress.
