Through the use of powerful genomic techniques, researchers at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases have found that the development of immune cells, called innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), gradually prepares these cells for rapid response to infection. This work, which appeared online today in Cell, sheds light on the development and function of a cell type that is increasingly recognized as having an important role in the body's immune defense. NIAMS is part of the National Institutes of Health.

Upp Technology, a leader in public health software solutions, announced today at the Public Health Preparedness Summit, that it has enhanced its suite of irms software with the addition of the irms Vaccine Provider Registration System. The new provider management solution is already running in multiple states and the company expects to announce the deployment of this system in another four states within the first quarter of 2010.
The controversial drug dipyrone can treat acute headaches, but patients should be warned of the risk of potentially serious blood disorders (or "dyscrasias"), concluded a Cochrane Review team.
Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have invented small-molecule folding probes that enable them to quantify functional, normally folded and disease-associated misfolded conformations (shapes) of a protein-of-interest in cells under different conditions.
