Pablo Sobrado, assistant professor of biochemistry at Virginia Tech, has been awarded Costa Rica's 2011 National Technology Prize, administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bone loses mass as a result of age or other influences. This weakening is the leading cause of fractures in the elderly, often after trivial injuries, and makes treating these "pathological fractures" a challenge.
This month USAA and LTCFP are presenting a free 45-minute seminar that highlights the critical need for long-term care insurance and presents the various public and private financing options that are available. It will be held at multiple times in 4 Ohio cities. The general public, including military personnel, are invited to attend.
The first post-FDA approval study of a non-surgically implanted replacement pulmonary valve showed strong short- and mid-term results for the device in patients with certain congenital heart defects, according to research presented by a U-M pediatric interventional cardiologist at the American College of Cardiology's 63rd Annual Scientific Session Sunday.
On Friday, March 13, 2015, as part of its 20th Annual Conference: Advancing the Standard of Cancer Care, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network hosted its second roundtable, Value-Based Decision-Making at the Bedside, which reflected on the tools available to oncology clinicians, such as clinical practice guidelines and pathways, and how the use of these tools has impacted bedside evidence-based decision-making for both physicians and patients, the criteria used to assess shared decision-making, and the relationship between outcomes and cost when determining value.
