There are several drugs that are being used for treatment of type 2 diabetes. Many type 2 diabetics suffer from kidney disorders that are caused by persistent high levels of blood sugar.
Curis, Inc., announced today that its licensee Debiopharm S.A. has received approval from France's regulatory authority Agence Française de Securité Sanitaire des Produits de Santé (AFSSAPS) of a Clinical Trial Application (CTA) for small molecule heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) inhibitor Debio 0932, formerly called CUDC-305. Under the terms of Curis' and Debiopharm's August 2009 license agreement, Curis will receive an $8 million milestone payment from Debiopharm for the achievement of this development objective.
An 18-year follow-up study of postmenopausal women in the Women's Health Initiative trials has shown that the use of hormone therapy was not associated with any increased risk of all-cause, cardiovascular or cancer death.
The Children's Tumor Foundation, together with the Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program and Sage Bionetworks, has announced the first-ever open data portal for scientific research results in the field of neurofibromatosis.
The New York Times Prescriptions Blog reports: "In a major end-game endorsement for Democrats, the American Medical Association, which represents the nation's doctors, reiterated its support for the health care legislation on Friday. The announcement was immediately hailed by the White House. ... While some groups like the United States Chamber of Commerce are openly fighting the legislation, it is helpful to the White House and Democratic leaders that the doctors are not throwing their weight behind the opposition" (Herszenhorn, 3/19).
