Newcastle University experts are chairing a national session on new guidelines for the early detection and treatment of sarcopenia - a loss of muscle strength that affects many older people in the UK.
A new genetic signature identified by Spanish researchers may provide doctors with robust and objective information about which patients with early stage lung cancer are at low or high risk of relapse following surgery, investigators report at the 3rd European Lung Cancer Conference in Geneva. Their work also opens new avenues for immunotherapy for lung cancer.
Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has announced that its subsidiary Barr Laboratories, Inc. has received final U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its application to manufacture and market a generic version of Pharmacia and Upjohn Company's Dostinex (cabergoline) tablets, 0.5 mg.
Instrumentation Laboratory today announced the commercialization in Europe of their HemosIL Direct Thrombin Inhibitor (DTI) Assay. When used in conjunction with HemosIL Dabigatran Calibrators and Controls, this test offers an automated solution for the measurement of dabigatran, a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC).
Among patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement, younger age, male sex, history of diabetes mellitus, and moderate to severe residual aortic regurgitation were significantly associated with an increased risk of infective endocarditis, and patients who developed endocarditis had high rates of in-hospital mortality and 2-year mortality, according to a study appearing in the September 13 issue of JAMA.
