Research at Emory University shows that monitoring the level of an epilepsy drug, called lamotrigine, in the blood helps reduce increased seizure activity and improve the overall health of pregnant women and their fetuses.
Scientists at Inserm and Institut Pasteur have performed biomarker discovery on patients being treated for chronic hepatitis C infection. Their work, published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation, demonstrates that the plasma levels of the protein IP-10 predict, prior to treatment initiation, the efficacy of treatment with pegylated-interferon and ribavirin.
Neoprobe Corporation, a diversified developer of innovative oncology surgical and diagnostic products, announced today that it completed the previously announced sale of its neoprobe GDS line of gamma detection device systems to Devicor Medical Products, Inc. for $30 million in upfront consideration, plus up to an additional $20 million in royalties based on Devicor's achievement of certain revenue milestones.
Sphere Medical, innovator in critical care monitoring and diagnostics equipment, has published a white paper exploring the issues in critical care around anaemia, transfusions and blood conservation. Entitled ‘Blood conservation with a patient dedicated arterial blood gas analyser', the new white paper is available for download from Sphere's online clinical resource centre.
"U.N. officials sounded the alarm Tuesday about a deepening crisis in East Africa, saying they are struggling to cope with the number of people on the move in the region because of the severe drought and continued fighting in Somalia," the Associated Press reports.
