Hyperactivity of our immune system can cause a state of chronic inflammation. If chronic, the inflammation will affect our body and result in disease. In the devastating disease multiple sclerosis, hyperactivity of immune cells called T-cells induce chronic inflammation and degeneration of the brain. Researchers at BRIC, the University of Copenhagen, have identified a new type of regulatory blood cells that can combat such hyperactive T-cells in blood from patients with multiple sclerosis. By stimulating the regulatory blood cells, the researchers significantly decreased the level of brain inflammation and disease in a biological model.
A team of researchers at the Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica, in Taiwan, evaluated the efficacy of 2,855 agents against SARS-CoV-2.
Mount Sinai researchers have discovered a pathway that regulates special immune system cells in lung cancer tumors, suppressing them and allowing tumors to grow.
According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, the nearly $3 billion US market for trauma fixation devices will continue to see rapid growth over the next five years despite the recent economic slowdown. MRG's US Markets for Trauma Devices 2010 report finds that this market will remain highly dynamic over the next five years, with competitors introducing specialized devices in previously underserved segments of the trauma fixation market, fueling market growth.
