Kewaunee Scientific Corporation today reported sales and earnings for its first quarter ended July 31, 2011. Sales for the quarter were $26,321,000, up 5.9% from sales of $24,858,000 in the first quarter last year. Net earnings for the quarter were $22,000, or $0.01 per diluted share, down from net earnings of $657,000, or $0.25 per diluted share, in the first quarter of the prior year.
A National Institutes of Health grant will help University of Central Florida researchers explore new ways to potentially reverse the damage caused by multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders.
A new study in BioMed Central's open access journal Critical Care suggests that intensive glycemic control does not reduce mortality in neurocritical care patients and could, in fact, lead to more neurological damage. Complicating the picture, poor glucose control also leads to worse recovery and should be avoided.
Diseases such as epilepsy, neuropathic pain, anxiety, depression, drug addiction and Alzheimer's are all associated with changes in the excitability of brain neurons.
