The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Temple University have received a joint $4.3 million, four-year grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to investigate new methods to eradicate HIV that lurks in brain cells despite conventional antiviral treatments.
Studies have shown that bariatric surgery can lead to remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in rodents and humans, but this beneficial effect cannot be explained solely by weight loss.
A simple community program has been shown to be effective in preventing excess weight gain commonly experienced by young mothers. The research, published online today in the British Medical Journal at bmj.com has found that weight gain can be prevented with a program based on simple health messages, small changes to behaviour, and delivered conveniently in a community setting.
The metaphor of a ticking clock is often used to refer to a woman's growing urge - from puberty onwards to menopause - to conceive before her childbearing years are over.
