Researchers at the Georgia State University School of Public Health have received more than $1 million to develop cellphone messaging programs to help smokers kick the habit in China and Vietnam, countries where smoking rates among men are among the highest in the world.
The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) has conducted an international survey of 75 melanoma centres on their behaviours and practices. The survey, which was conducted between 2003-2005, looked at common surgical practices in melanoma surgery (resection margins, sentinel node biopsy and lymph node dissection), as well as surgical management of distant metastases and the use of Isolate Limb Perfusion.
A study of almost 25,000 coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients has shown that receiving blood from another person is associated with a two-fold increase in post-operative infection rates. The research, published in the open access journal BMC Medicine, also found considerable hospital variation in transfusion practices.
Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, the global leader in the science of heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring, announced today that it has completed the sale of certain assets related to its hemofiltration product line to Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX), consistent with the previously announced terms of the agreement.
