MIT chemists have devised an inexpensive, portable sensor that can detect gases emitted by rotting meat, allowing consumers to determine whether the meat in their grocery store or refrigerator is safe to eat.
In a two-year longitudinal study involving 13 intensive care units in four U.S. hospitals, researchers found that better physical functioning — basic and complex activities considered essential for maintaining independence — is associated with remission of general anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. These findings may help clinicians be better prepared for caring for the growing number of survivors of critical illness, potentially leading to a better quality of recovery for patients.
Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc., a developer of oral drug delivery systems, presented the results of its recently completed Phase IIb trial. The multicenter, placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind study conducted in 29 patients with Type II diabetes assessed the safety of ORMD-0801 in patients with Type II diabetes.
