Approximately 200,000 of the 38 million people in the U.S. who take statins to treat high cholesterol may develop life-threatening muscle disease.
The nation's leader in hybrid concierge medicine, Concierge Choice Physicians, has introduced the first targeted and viable concierge program for non-invasive cardiologists who also provide other internal medicine services to patients. Called Concierge Choice Cardiology, the new program employs the CCP hybrid model to offset many of the economic and professional challenges that recent changes in reimbursement rates have created.
By analyzing medical records of 901 adults who had surgery for a certain type of precancerous pancreatic cyst, researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine and The Karolinska Institute in Sweden have updated parameters for an anatomical "marker" that can tell more precisely if these cysts are likely to develop into lethal pancreatic cancers.
Patients who receive buprenorphine treatment for opioid addiction in an office-based setting are more likely than those receiving methadone treatment to be young men, new to drug use, and with no history of methadone treatment, Yale School of Medicine researchers report in a study published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
