An international research team, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), today announced it has completed a high-quality, draft sequence of the genome of the laboratory rat, and has used that data to explore how the rat's genetic blueprint stacks up against those of mice and humans.
A team of researchers from Mayo Clinic have found that that Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles that are present in bone implants may be causing harm by impairing bone formation and interfering with resorption at the site of repair. This can lead to loosening of the implants and pain.
The BUAV, a leading animal protection organization, is calling on CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) to take action following its investigation into a shocking and expanding trade in primates from Laos to China and Vietnam for the research industry. BUAV investigators secretly filmed inside the largest monkey farm (Vannaseng Trading Company) in the first expose of the primate trade in Laos, also revealing the construction of a new monkey farm.
