Diabetic kidney diseases are the main cause of kidney failure in industrialized countries. An international, EU-funded R&D project - which is being headed by the Medical University of Innsbruck, and involves collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna and international partners - is being implemented with the aim of using computer software to provide personalized predictions of the disease's progression and bring about improvements in individuals' responses to treatment.
A new study shows that fibromyalgia patients who stopped taking medication but exercised regularly for six weeks reported improved memory function and less pain. While the finding is encouraging, it does not suggest a potential change in clinical care for fibromyalgia patients, the study authors stressed.
The 2010 health- care law, which imposed immediate and heavy cuts on hospitals, drugmakers and insurers, left doctors relatively untouched. A 1997 law that reduces doctors' Medicare payments is consistently overridden by Congress.
Lack of water causes great distress among the population in large parts of Africa and Asia. Small decentralized water treatment plants with an autonomous power supply can help solve the problem: They transform salty seawater or brackish water into pure drinking water.
Clinical researchers from Cornell Weil Medical School and University of Chicago Medical School will present research conducted on Raman Molecular Imaging's ability to differentiate diagnostic dilemmas in lung and kidney tumors at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology's 100th Annual Meeting, Feb. 26-March 4 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas.
