As Congress wraps up work on health care reform, members of the American Society of Transplantation's (AST) Public Policy Committee arrived on Capitol Hill today to discuss the importance of supporting a health care provision that would ensure kidney transplant recipients continue to receive.
The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Program and Oxfam issued a joint appeal on Friday asking the international community to provide the "political, moral and financial means" necessary to fight the severe drought affecting more than 10 million people in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Uganda, the Associated Press reports.
Functional foods containing bacteria with beneficial health effects, or probiotics, have long been consumed in Northern Europe and are becoming increasingly popular elsewhere. To be of benefit, however, the bacteria have to survive in the very hostile environment of the digestive tract.
ViroPharma is increasing its Cinryze manufacturing capacity through two concurrent efforts. The first project, the parallel chromatography process, was implemented earlier this year and allows production to run across multiple shifts, effectively doubling the capacity of the current manufacturing line and increasing the amount of drug supply available to patients suffering from hereditary angioedema, or HAE.
