In the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics a randomized controlled trial indicates that group therapy may affect the course of bipolar disorder. This study evaluated the effectiveness of adjunctive cognitive behavioral group therapy to prevent recurrence of episodes in 50 euthymic patients with bipolar disorder types I and II followed up for at least 12 months in an outpatient service and whose disease was in remission.

Findings support 'medical home' movement to improve health outcomes

Greater access to features of high-quality primary care - comprehensiveness, patient-centeredness and extended office hours - is associated with lower mortality, according to a new national UC Davis study. Published in the January-February issue of the Annals of Family Medicine, the research is the first to link the availability of three specific attributes of primary care with reduced risk of death.
