TEACHING people with type 1 diabetes how to embed lifelong habits such as carbohydrate counting into everyday life rather than as part of week-long education programmes could significantly reduce their risk of complications from the disease, according to new research.
While the rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has prompted the medical community, non-profit organizations, public health officials and the national media to educate the public to the dangers of misusing and overusing antibiotics, the University of Georgia's J. Vaun McArthur is concerned that there's more to the problem than the misuse of common medications.
Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive "demanded more information on Wednesday about foreign aid pouring into the earthquake-stricken country and urged that his government not be sidelined in reconstruction efforts," Reuters reports.
"What does it take to get to zero? While reflecting on the theme of this past World AIDS Day (Getting to zero, Zero new infections, Zero discrimination, Zero deaths), I asked myself this question," Lisa MacDonald, project manager at HealthBridge Foundation of Canada, writes in a Huffington Post Canada opinion piece.
A new study has shown that alcohol alters and damages the natural bacterial environment in the mouth. The study titled, "Drinking alcohol is associated with variation in the human oral microbiome in a large study of American adults," published this week (24th April 2018) in the journal Microbiome explored the effects of alcohol on these bacterial compositions within the mouth.
