Since its implementation in 2009, the National Australian Hand Hygiene Initiative has seen significant, sustained improvements in hand hygiene compliance among Australian healthcare workers, and reduced risks of potentially fatal healthcare-associated Staphylococcus aureus infection, according to new research being presented at this year's European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases in Amsterdam, Netherlands (13-16 April), and published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
Scientists at the University of Southampton are continuing their pioneering research into diseases such as Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD) and related conditions caused by tiny particles known as prions, thanks to a £300,000 grant from the Medical Research Council.
In her latest Kaiser Health News consumer column, Michelle Andrews writes: "When Richard Crusoe was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer called liposarcoma, the retired firefighter and his family pinned their hopes of slowing the cancer's advance on a drug that was being tested in a clinical trial" (Andrews, 8/24).
Women who commit sexual offences are just as likely to have mental problems or drug addictions as other violent female criminals. This according to the largest study ever conducted of women convicted of sexual offences in Sweden.
Behavioral experiment on reward and punishment highlights the cumulative effect of punishment in children with ADHD.
