KAI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held drug discovery and development company, today announced initiation of patient enrollment in the second Phase 2 study of KAI-4169, a novel pharmaceutical agent being tested for the treatment of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) in hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), which is a frequent and serious complication of end-stage renal disease.
According to the most comprehensive survey of people affected by Hurricane Katrina, results of which are being presented today to the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Disaster Recovery, the percentage of pre-hurricane residents of the affected areas in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi who have mental disorders has increased significantly compared to the situation five to eight months after the hurricane.
Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have been awarded a $2 million grant from the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health to study the effects of early nutrition on lifespan and overall health.
Number of children is emerging as a novel factor that influences the risk for some cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and in some societies in both parents, according to Professor Vera Regitz-Zagrosek, chairperson of the European Society of Cardiology "management of CVD During Pregnancy" guidelines task force.
