The Center for Neurotechnology Studies at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies is proud to announce the launch of the Capital Consortium on Neuroscience, Ethics, Legal and Social Issues (CCNELSI) on Friday September 4, 2009.
The presence of certain bacteria in the mouth may reveal increased risk for pancreatic cancer and enable earlier, more precise treatment. This is the main finding of a study led by researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center and its Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center to be presented April 19 in New Orleans at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
It's too soon for Shayla Durfey to know whether she'll apply for a Teaching Health Centers residency when she graduates from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in a few years - but as she and two professors write online in JAMA, the unique opportunity won't still exist for her or other medical students without action from Congress.
An international team of researchers' study of the spatial patterns of the spread of obesity suggests America's bulging waistlines may have more to do with collective behavior than genetics or individual choices. The team, led by City College of New York physicist Hern-n Makse, found correlations between the epidemic's geography and food marketing and distribution patterns.
According to a new report (PDF) from the National Survey of Family Growth, part of the CDC's (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) National Center for Health Statistics, American teenagers are still having as much sex as before. Heartening is the trend of improved usage of contraception or birth control says the report.
