In a Lancet Comment discussing the WHO Global Tuberculosis report 2013 published today [Wednesday 23 October], members of the UK All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Tuberculosis and lead author Professor Ali Zumla from University College London sound an alarm as the growing threat of multi-drug resistant TB to regional and global health security becomes more apparent.
Looking for a better treatment for the autoimmune disease myasthenia gravis, researchers have found that a protein in tick saliva shows promise in limiting the severity of the disease in an animal model in a study published in the Annals of Neurology.
Key findings documented in American Medical Association's Journal of Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness 60% of children - as many as 20,000 - displaced by Katrina either have serious emotional disorders, behavioral issues and/or are experiencing significant housing instability.One-third of children are reported to have been diagnosed with at least one mental health problem, but fewer than 50% of parents were able to access needed professional services.Children post-Katrina are 4.5 times more likely to have serious emotional disturbance than children not affected by the disaster
