According to a new systematic review article, radiofrequency ablation and complete endoscopic resection are equally effective in the short-term treatment of dysplastic Barrett's esophagus, but adverse event rates are higher with complete endoscopic resection.
Hospitalization And Mortality Rates For Medicare Beneficiaries, 1998-2008 - This report examines treatment of more than 55 million Medicare fee-for-service heart failure patients, from 1998 to 2008. The researchers found that heart failure hospitalization declined susbstantially over that time but "occurred unevenly across race-sex categories, especially for black men, who had the lowest rate of decline."
Blood clots often form when lipid-rich plaques on the inner surface of arteries rupture and platelets aggregate at the site of injury. Cardiologists from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet in Munich have now compared the effects of two new platelet aggregation inhibitors.
BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., announced today that the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) has completed the seventh unblinded review of the LibiGel Phase III cardiovascular and breast cancer safety study, which has completed enrollment of subjects.
The buildup of plaque in the heart's arteries is an unfortunate part of aging. But by studying the genetic makeup of people who maintain clear arteries into old age, researchers led by UNC's Jonathan Schisler, PhD, have identified a possible genetic basis for coronary artery disease (CAD), as well as potential new opportunities to prevent it.
