Global Health at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is deploying a medical team to Haiti today in response to an urgent call from Partners In Health for pediatric experts to care for children with injuries related to the Jan. 12 earthquake at the University Hospital in Port-au-Prince.
Atlanta Journal Constitution: "Talks to settle a federal investigation of Georgia's mental health system came down to a single meeting Wednesday." And, "the talks failed. Federal authorities immediately went to court, asking a judge to force Georgia to make substantial and potentially expensive improvements in its state psychiatric hospitals and in its community-based treatment services — the same measures state officials rejected during the negotiations.
Derma Sciences, Inc., a medical device and pharmaceutical company focused on advanced wound care, today announced that patient screening in its DSC127 Phase 2 trial in diabetic foot ulcer healing will be completed tomorrow, and that enrollment in the trial will conclude on September 30. This randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study of up to 75 patients will look at the percentage of diabetic ulcers completely healed over a 12-week period, among other outcomes.
A team of University of California, Berkeley, scientists in collaboration with researchers at the University of Munich and University of Washington in Seattle has discovered a chemical that temporarily restores some vision to blind mice, and is working on an improved compound that may someday allow people with degenerative blindness to see again.
