A new guideline to help clinicians manage malignant pleural effusions has been developed by the American Thoracic Society, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Radiology.
According to a study of seven U.S. healthcare systems, the use of computed tomography scans of the head, abdomen/pelvis, chest or spine, in children younger than age 14 more than doubled from 1996 to 2005, and this associated radiation is projected to potentially increase the risk of radiation-induced cancer in these children in the future, according to a study published Online First by JAMA Pediatrics, a JAMA Network publication.
New Zealand company Promisia Integrative Limited, announced today significant positive results from a clinical trial on their natural dietary supplement Arthrem. The results have been published in the December 2015 issue of Clinical Rheumatology, a prestigious international peer reviewed medical journal.
In a boon to stem cell research and regenerative medicine, scientists at Boston Children's Hospital, the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University and Boston University have created a computer algorithm called CellNet as a "roadmap" for cell and tissue engineering, to ensure that cells engineered in the lab have the same favorable properties as cells in our own bodies.
