The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recognizes 122 units from 101 hospitals nationwide that earned the Beacon Award for Excellence between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2013.
Studies from Stanford University, Cleveland Clinic Florida and the Naval Medical Center in San Diego show laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, an increasingly popular surgical procedure where the stomach is reduced by 85 percent, is as safe as or safer than laparoscopic gastric bypass or gastric banding. The studies* were presented here at the 29th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
ImmunoCellular Therapeutics, Ltd., a biotechnology company that is developing immune-based therapies for the treatment of various forms of cancer, announced today that the first patient has been enrolled in its Phase II trial of ICT-107 at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center. ICT-107 is the company's dendritic cell based cancer vaccine candidate for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).
San Diego surgeons report that they have been successfully utilizing a collagen bioscaffold material developed by Irvine-based Pegasus Biologics, Inc. to complement soft tissue repair and regeneration among high risk wound patients.
As Mitt Romney moves closer to locking up the Republican presidential nomination, the questions about his ability to attack President Obama on healthcare are only getting louder. Conservatives have long been uneasy with Romney's record on healthcare.
