A new study co-led by scientists at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology adds increasing evidence that Parkinson's disease is partly an autoimmune disease. In fact, the researchers report that signs of autoimmunity can appear in Parkinson's disease patients years before their official diagnosis.
Thioperamide, a selective histamine H3 receptor antagonist, can increase histamine content in the brain and improve brain edema in adult hypoxic rats. Brain edema is precisely considered as the important pathological change of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
The introduction of new standards to assess nutrition in children could lead to confusion and a cut in the numbers of malnourished children eligible for emergency feeding programmes, warn researchers in the British Medical Journal.
Past research shows that minorities suffer higher rates of advanced cancer and deaths from all types of cancer compared to whites. According to an article in the August issue of Cancer, the role of "patient navigator" is emerging as a tool to address these disparities.
