Anthony Asher, MD, FACS, of Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates in Charlotte, NC, has co-authored the first evidence-based, multidisciplinary treatment guidelines for brain metastases patients. These guidelines were recently presented at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2009 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, and were developed over the last year by a 20-member panel from various medical specialties.
Research shows that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients with hypothyroidism have an elevated exacerbation frequency but, despite this, experience similar quality of life to patients with normal thyroid function.
People with any form of diabetes are at greater risk of developing cardiovascular conditions than people without the disease. Moreover, if they undergo an operation to open up a clogged artery by inserting a "stent" surgical tube, the artery is much more likely to clog up again.
A simple blood test could determine which drug and dosage is more likely to be effective against rheumatoid arthritis, potentially saving sufferers serious side effects and Australian taxpayers millions of dollars.
