A Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center project called "open notes" will make doctor's notes available to as many as 35,000 patients online along with the rest of their medical records for a year, the Boston Globe reports.
In letters to leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate today, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine expressed its strong concerns about the effect of proposed funding cuts to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health - which ACOEM says will devastate the nation's supply of new physicians trained to treat injured and ill workers.
A protein found in the virulent avian influenza virus strain called H5N1 forms tiny tubules in which it "hides" the pieces of double-stranded RNA formed during viral infection, which otherwise would prompt an antiviral immune response from infected cells, said Baylor College of Medicine researchers in an online report in the journal Nature.
