A University of Pennsylvania researcher has discovered that the common selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) citalopram arrested the growth of amyloid beta, a peptide in the brain that clusters in plaques that are thought to trigger the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Two well-known superbugs are the gram-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). A new drug Teixobactin has shown promise against these microbes. The study titled, "The Killing Mechanism of Teixobactin against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus: an Untargeted Metabolomics Study," was published in the latest issue of the journal Therapeutics and Prevention.
GE Healthcare announced the introduction of a breakthrough Computed Tomography (CT) image reconstruction technology, called Veo, in Canada. The industry's first Model-based Iterative Reconstruction (MBIR) technique, Veo is designed to help physicians deliver accurate diagnoses by enabling high CT image quality at significantly lower dose.
Interruptions in workflow, such as a phone call while working on another task, or when a colleague stops by for a chat, can lead to inefficiencies in the workplace. For nurses working in emergency departments, those interruptions could affect patient care.
