New research from the University of Virginia Health System shows that, in cases of Type 1 myotonic muscular dystrophy (DM1), a well known heart protein does several surprising things.
Decision Resources, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms for pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that the rapid uptake and market penetration of key targeted agents, beginning with Roche/Genentech/Chugai's Herceptin, will drive the gastric cancer drug market to more than double, from $700 million in 2009 to nearly $1.5 billion in 2019.
A research team led by Tadashi Isa, a professor at the Japanese National Institute for Physiological Sciences, NIPS (SEIRIKEN), and Dr. Yukio Nishimura (University of Washington, Seattle), have found that brain compensatory mechanisms contribute to recovery from spinal cord injury.
Poorer and less-educated older Americans are more like to suffer from chronic pain than those with greater wealth and more education, but the disparity between the two groups is much greater than previously thought, climbing as high as 370 percent in some categories, according to new research by a University at Buffalo medical sociologist.
The prevalence of diabetes in urban India is accelerating at a rapid rate and now stands at 5.5 percent (just under 20 million people), compared with 4.6 percent in 2007 - equivalent to a 30 percent increase in actual population numbers over the last four years - according to new research by GfK HealthCare's Roper Global Diabetes Group. Moreover, a full 10 percent of these patients have been diagnosed in the past 12 months.
