A rapid detection test for Exserhilum rostratum, the fungus primarily responsible for 39 deaths among patients injected last year with a contaminated steroid medication, has been developed by a research team led by David S. Perlin, PhD, Executive Director of the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School.
Humana Inc. alleges the device maker violated federal racketeering statutes by conspiring with prominent physicians to promote unapproved uses of the drug, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Novel measures of brain activity associated with Parkinson's disease can be detected with scalp electrodes, according to a new analysis published in eNeuro. Such a marker of PD — detected using a noninvasive, affordable approach — could improve management of the disease by doctors and patients, particularly in rural areas.
And later this year, the facility will be upgraded to include "haptic" capacity, or the ability to recognise the sense of touch – such as giving medical students the ability to "feel" the difference between virtual skin, muscle, tendon or bone.
New research from the UBC Sauder School of the Business has found that transplant societies which prioritize kidney transplant chains over kidney exchanges can increase the total number of transplants, thereby saving more lives.
