A prominent Australian pharmacologist has called for a new approach to treating COVID-19 as hopes fade of finding an effective vaccine or antiviral before the end of the year.
It is Australia's turn to get a new National Health Performance Authority after the Victorian Government abandoned its opposition to the creation of the body. According to sources in a meeting of federal, state and territory health ministers in Melbourne this week all groups have agreed in principle to the establishment of the authority which will monitor and report on the performance of hospitals and health services.
In a move likely to secure its place as a leading provider of medical radiation countermeasures, Humanetics Corporation today announced that it has secured exclusive worldwide licenses to two new treatments that provide short and long-term post-exposure protection from ionizing radiation acquired during a terrorist act, nuclear or radiological attack or accident, as part of cancer radiotherapy or even during routine diagnostic CT scans.
According to a new analysis by Highline Data, the leading data provider of financial and marketing information on insurance companies, the health insurance industry reported a decline of 12.4 percent in net income, to $8.2 billion, as of September 30 compared to the same period in 2008.
Research being driven by The University of Western Ontario that will enhance diabetes management across Canada recently received support from two of Canada's leading pharmaceutical companies in the form of a $500,000 contribution.
