Researchers from Joslin Diabetes Center have developed a prognostic tool that accurately predicts the risk of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
A study has found that, if left unchecked, 43 percent of Americans will be obese by 2018, costing the health care system $344 billion annually.
Wolters Kluwer Health today announced that one of its wholly- owned subsidiaries has entered into an agreement to acquire Pharmacy OneSource, a leading healthcare Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) provider that helps hospitals manage the complex challenges of patient safety, compliance and efficiency. The transaction will allow Wolters Kluwer Health to extend its Clinical Decision Support (CDS) solutions into the hospital pharmacy market and will further strengthen the company's leadership position in the growing point-of-care market.
A day after delivering her fourth child at Anaheim Regional Medical Center in Anaheim, California last December, 34-year-old Brynn Ervin suffered a cardiac arrest, the result of massive blood clots lodged in the main arteries that take blood to her lungs. Desperate to save the life of the young mother, the cardiac arrest team performed 95 minutes of CPR.
Individuals with an inherited form of skin cancer often have a poor prognosis. The type of immunotherapy that was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is, however, particularly effective in this patient group, research from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden shows. The study is published in the Journal of Medical Genetics.
