The first results from a large-scale study of key antimalarial medicines in ten Sub-Saharan African countries reveal that a high percentage of medicines circulating on national markets are of substandard quality and thus may contribute to the growth of drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, the most virulent form of malaria.
Cell Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that it has submitted a formal appeal to the Office of New Drugs in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research regarding the agency's decision from earlier this year on the pixantrone New Drug Application to treat relapsed/refractory aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The relationship between the heritable risk for schizophrenia and low intelligence has not been clear. Schizophrenia is commonly associated with cognitive impairments that may cause functional disability. There are clues that reduced IQ may be linked to the risk for developing schizophrenia.
Doctors at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have shown that testing cervical tumors before treatment for vulnerability to chemotherapy predicts whether patients will do well or poorly with standard treatment.
