Nurses will use the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women to shine a spotlight on the aggression nurses and other health-care professionals experience in their workplaces and lives.
Resting cancer cells can be selectively destroyed by inhibiting their energy metabolism. This is the recent discovery by researchers at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in Berlin-Buch, together with other cooperation partners from Germany. The findings of their study have been published in the scientific journal Nature.
Public health research data "must be made more widely available in the scientific community if researchers are to unlock its full potential and make progress in public health, the world's top health funding agencies said Monday," Reuters reports. "In a joint statement, 17 major health research funders from around the world pledged to work together to support 'timely and responsible' sharing of data gathered during studies on health," the news service notes (Kelland, 1/10).
In a recent study, Dr. Ingolf Bach and colleagues from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester and the University of Hamburg describe a novel role for the ubiquitin/proteosome protein degradation pathway in the regulation of local actin dynamics in neurons.
When we volunteer our time to do something for others, such as helping out an elderly neighbour or taking part in a local community project, it can be good news for our health, our children's education and even reduce the local crime rate too.
