Two specific types of vena cava filters, devices used to prevent blood clots from reaching the lungs, appear to have evidence of fracturing inside the body, with some fractured fragments traveling to the heart and causing potentially life-threatening complications, according to a report posted online today that will appear in the November 8 print issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
The talus is the part ankle that allows the foot to move in all different directions. High impact injuries like falls, or traffic accidents can cause the talus bone to be fractured, and a high percentage of these injuries result in avascular necrosis (AVN)—the death of the bone. In a first-of-its-kind procedure using 3D printing technology, internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Myerson, Director, The Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Medical Center, explains how a talus replacement, tailored to the patient's specific dimensions, can result in a "life-changing experience" for the patient.
For RNA, the gateway to a productive life outside the nucleus is the nuclear pore complex, an amalgamation of 30 kinds of proteins that regulates all traffic passing through the nuclear membrane.
Arcus Biosciences, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on creating innovative cancer immunotherapies, today announced that it will present final results from the Phase 1 study of AB928, its dual adenosine receptor antagonist, in healthy volunteers during a poster display session at the European Society of Medical Oncology 2018 Congress, being held October 19-23, 2018, in Munich, Germany.
