ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced positive clinical data from an ongoing Phase 1 study of its investigational, pan-BCR-ABL inhibitor, AP24534, in patients with advanced hematological cancers.
Many older, but also increasingly younger, people suffer from several diseases at the same time. Scientists at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, together with colleagues from Munich and the United Kingdom, have now identified common risk factors that predispose to multiple even seemingly unrelated diseases.
Scientists have unraveled in unprecedented detail the cascade of events that go wrong in brain cells affected by HIV, a virus whose assault on the nervous system continues unabated despite antiviral medications that can keep the virus at bay for years in the rest of the body.
A recent research study has given new scientific evidence to the long-held empirical belief that elderberries possess antiviral activities. The research involved a specific, reproducible elderberry extract developed by HerbalScience Group LLC, and succeeded in identifying key chemical components of the extract that inhibited in vitro infection and were shown to bind directly to Human Influenza A (H1N1) virus particles. The binding blocked the ability of the viruses to enter host cells, and thereby effectively preventing H1N1 infection in vitro.
