With a single tap on a smartphone, cancer patients now can access detailed information about treatment options by cancer type, GPS mapping to appointment locations, as well as schedule appointments and connect to their electronic medical record.
Two Mount Sinai School of Medicine researchers are among a select group of scientists from around the world who have been recognized by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for their quest to answer the most pressing questions about cancer. Stuart Aaronson, MD, Professor and Chair of Oncological Sciences and Ross Cagan, PhD, Professor of Oncological Sciences at Mount Sinai, have received the NCI's new "Provocative Questions" grant, which was established to explore the important yet less obvious questions about cancer that may have been neglected in this era of significant discovery.
Researchers at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., and colleagues from the UF Shands Cancer Center in Gainesville, Fla., have found that cases of myeloid malignancies are being underreported since a change in registry protocols and laboratory practices starting in 2001.
Leading imaging companies Leica, Nikon, Zeiss, FEI, Olympus, SVI and Photometrics announced last week that for the first time they jointly founded an open Industry Board linked to the upcoming European research infrastructure for imaging "Euro-BioImaging".
Admission to the hospital and being seen by a neurologist are factors associated with better quality care for people with a transient ischemic attack, also known as mini-stroke, according to new research led by scientists from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Regenstrief Institute, Purdue University, and Indiana University.
