The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), is now accepting applications for the 2010 Research Grants Program. This year's grants program will be administered through the AACR's rigorous peer-review system to ensure the highest quality science is supported. The grant terms will begin on July 1, 2010.
A new study released today estimates that the global initiative to eradicate polio could provide net benefits of at least US$40-50 billion if transmission of wild polioviruses is interrupted within the next five years. The study provides the first rigorous evaluation of the benefits and costs of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI)-the single largest project ever undertaken by the global health community. The study comes at a crucial time-following an outbreak in the Republic of the Congo and one in Tajikistan earlier this year-that highlight the risk of delays in finishing the job on polio.
The Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) has announced that Governor Eliot Spitzer has signed into law the Allergy & Anaphylaxis Management Act of 2007 (AAMA; A.4051), landmark legislation that will help protect New York schoolchildren who suffer from life-threatening food allergies.
Mandatory influenza (flu) vaccination, as a condition of employment, did not lead to excessive voluntary termination, according to a four-year analysis of vaccination rates at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.
Dr. Tom Hudson, President and Scientific Director of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR), and Dr. Terrence Sullivan, President and CEO of Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), announce $6 million in funding for projects in the Health Services Research Program (HSRP).
