Case Western Reserve University is one of three institutions nationwide to win federal 'big data' grants focused on developing ways to ensure the integrity and comparability of the reams of information the U.S. health care system collects every day. If successful, the work could create enormous new opportunities to glean insights that help physicians cure or even prevent illness and disease.
Allergan plc, a leading global pharmaceutical company, and Rugen Therapeutics, a start-up biotechnology company focused on the development of novel treatments for unmet CNS disorders and funded by the F-Prime Biomedical Research Initiative, today announced that they have entered into an exclusive collaboration to support the discovery and development of novel therapies for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Obsessive Compulsive disorders (OCD).
It is a known fact that sexual minorities are at a higher risk of developing poor mental health, when compared to heterosexuals. The stigma that sexual minorities face has been regarded as potentially the primary cause of this.
A shameful record of exploitation throughout the history of the NHS, with the UK reliant on other countries sending us doctors to meet our healthcare needs, was condemned today (Monday 28 June 2004) by the chairman of the British Medical Association, Mr James Johnson.
According to public health officials this Tuesday, progress has been made in combating the microbes behind 50 million yearly U.S. food poisoning cases. These affect one in six Americans. This comes from the newest federal FoodNet report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that shows that total food-borne illnesses dropped by nearly a quarter in the last decade and a half, but salmonella infections have steadily refused to drop, climbing slightly in recent years.
