An international research team, led by principal investigator Elizabeth A. Winzeler, PhD, professor in the pediatric division of host-microbe systems and therapeutics at University of California San Diego School of Medicine, and colleagues have received a three-year, $4.7 million supplemental grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to advance their development of improved therapies for malaria eradication and elimination.
Mothers who are exposed to particulate air pollution of the type emitted by vehicles, urban heating and coal power plants are significantly more likely to bear children of low birth weight, according to an international study led by co-principal investigator Tracey J. Woodruff, PhD, MPH, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive sciences at UC San Francisco along with Jennifer Parker, PhD, of the National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) announced today that it has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charitable donations, for demonstrating exceptional fiscal responsibility in its efforts to bring patients the next generation of treatments and find a cure for multiple myeloma. This is the seventh consecutive year the MMRF has been honored with this distinguished recognition.
Eigen is the proud recipient of two grant awards from the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP) funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. QTDP tax credits are provided under section 48D of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), enacted as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-148).
