Paul Capital Healthcare today announced that it has led an investment to provide more than $100 million to UCB S.A. in exchange for certain payments relating to the sales of products marketed by third parties. The underlying third party products (which are non-core to UCB) are leading brands in their therapeutic fields.
Stem cells taken from adult human bone marrow have been manipulated by scientists at the Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to generate aggregates of cells called spheres that are similar to those derived from neural stem cells of the brain.
The researchers from Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University looked at 186 children aged 8 to 15 who experienced concussion - most commonly in a fall or while playing sports - or other brain injury from a car accident or other causes. The children's parents were asked to fill out a standard questionnaire to assess their child's cognitive and physical status before the concussion, and again two weeks, three months and a year later. These responses were compared to those from parents of 99 similar children who came into the emergency room with orthopedic injuries.
New research from Western University (London, Canada) is leading to a better understanding of what happens during heart failure; knowledge that could lead to better therapeutics or a more accurate predictor of risk.
