In the first known discovery of its kind, a Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine-led team has found that HIV patients in Africa with a certain genetic variant have a 63-percent lower chance of developing tuberculosis than HIV patients without the genetic variant.
The Institute of Sports Science at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) will be collaborating with three Chinese universities in the fields of research and teaching. The agreements cover such as aspects as research projects in high-performance sports to health care courses for students.
With findings highlighted on a recent cover of Developmental Cell , researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City have shed important new light on key trafficking mechanisms within epithelial cells. Epithelial cells line the outside of nearly all organs.
Men who have a high intake of supplemental calcium may be at an increased risk for cardiovascular disease death, report researchers.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins say they have gleaned two important new clues in the fight against Parkinson's disease: that blocking an enzyme called c-Abl prevents the disease in specially bred mice, and that a chemical tag on a second protein may signal the disorder's presence and progression.
