In a new study published today in the journal Developmental Science, researchers from the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Vanderbilt University found that early motor experiences can shape infants' preferences for objects and faces.
Learning to become self-sufficient and responsible is part of life's journey through the teen and young adult years. Mistakes are often made, and lessons are learned. However, for young kidney-graft patients, any mistake or failure in keeping to their strict immunosuppressive therapy can lead to tragic results.
A UCLA-led study has found that using three-dimensional virtual reality models to prepare for kidney tumor surgeries resulted in substantial improvements, including shorter operating times, less blood loss during surgery and a shorter stay in the hospital afterward.
There is hope that the drug rasagiline can do what no other medication for Parkinson's disease now does - slow the progression of a devastating degenerative brain disease that eventually robs people of their ability to move and function.
This estimate, released by Fidelity Investments, reflects a 4 percent increase over medical bill projections for a couple that retired a year earlier. The amount doesn't include long-term care costs or over-the-counter drug expenses, among other things.
